George Jones received his PhD. Degree in Biophysics from West Virginia University as the Claude Worthington Benedum scholar in life sciences, where his focus was on ion transport and immunology. Following graduation, Dr. Jones conducted post doctoral research at the University of Rochester, focusing again on ion transport, as well as lung diseases and other medical research projects. While at the University of Rochester, Dr. Jones taught pharmacology among other subjects. Following his time at the University of Rochester, Dr. Jones worked as a patent agent while attending law school at George Mason University. Following graduation from law school, Dr. Jones was employed as an associate in the firm Sughrue Mion PLLC, where he focused on patent prosecution and opinion work. He next moved in-house with Invitrogen Corporation, where he worked with machines and consumables for polymerase chain reaction, reverse transcription, cloning, culturing, stem cell production, cell therapy, regenerative medicine, immunotherapy, transfection, DNA/RNA purification, diagnostic tests, antibodies, and immunoassays. After the merger between Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems, forming Life Technologies, Dr. Jones moved to Sanofi S. A. where he focused on genomics, polymers, proteins and peptides, cells and cell culture (including fermentation), molecular biology, membrane transport, nucleic acid synthesis,
modification, detection and use as therapeutics, organic and inorganic chemicals and processes using or making the chemicals, genetic markers for detecting human and animal disease and target pathogens, antibodies as therapeutics, transgenic animals and organisms, organoids, and ethics and manners of genetic screening. In his work with Sanofi, he coordinated collaborative work between Sanofi and Regeneron.
